Purpose
The purpose of the statement is to:
- Provide a written statement of general principles relating to behaviour
- Provide guidance to the General Manager in drawing up the Hope Service Behaviour Policy so that it reflects the shared aspirations and beliefs of all stakeholders.
Our principles
- All young people, staff and visitors always have the right to feel safe in the day programme
- Every young person has the right to feel valued and respected and to learn in an environment free from the disruption of others
- The Hope Service is inclusive. All young people, staff and visitors are free from any form of discrimination
- Staff always set an excellent example to young people and develop positive relationships which lead to mutual respect between all members of the community. This in turn encourages good behaviour
- Violence, threatening behaviour or abuse by young people or parents / carers towards staff will not be tolerated
- Where there are any incidents of bullying, support will be offered to both the victim and the perpetrator
- Any sanctions and reasonable force are used consistently in line with the Behaviour Policy and the Restrictive and Physical Intervention Policy
- Young people are helped to take responsibility for their actions and be given an opportunity to reflect on what happened and how they could manage the situation differently in future
- Any behaviour incidents are discussed with parents or carers to foster good relationships between the Hope Service and the young person's home life
- Where a behaviour incident leads to the application of sanctions, a restorative approach will be used by staff to repair the relationship between those involved
- The emotional health and wellbeing of all young people and staff is pivotal and procedures and practices should ensure that this is always promoted.
